about us

The OHC is named after the well known pediatrician Otto Heubner ( 1842 - 1926). He received the first chair for pediatric medicine in Germany in 1894. The OHC was founded in 1999. It includes facilities for child and adolescent care at the University Hospital of the Charité and a social care center at two locations:

- on the Charité Campus of the Virchow Clinic in the Wedding district are the Departments of Pediatrics, Pediatric Surgery, Neonatology, Dept. of Pediatric Oncology / Hematology, Dept. of Pediatric Pneumology and Immunology, Dept. of Pediatric Neurology and the Dept. for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

- on the Charité Campus-Mitte, the traditional place of the Charité, are the Dept. for Neonatology, Dept. of Nephrology and the Dept. of Pediatric Cardiology.

This clinic works closely together with the departments of Children's Radiology and Pediatric Pathology. Within the framework of a reorganisation of academic medical institutions in Berlin various departments of pediatrics were fused into one organisation including the clinics at the Heubnerweg ( Kaiserin-Augusta- Victoria-Haus), the Reinickendorfer Straße and the Clinic of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Platanenallee (all formerly belonging to the Free University Berlin), the Children Hospital of the Charité ( Humboldt-University) and both clinics for Pediatric Surgery ( Charité and Reinickendorfer Straße).

We hope that the OHC will become the trademark of academic pediatrics at the Charité.
